hometown

it always amazes me the fact that, in most cases, the city you know the least, is the one you live in.
i've been to most monuments, museums, churches in the cities i visited abroad.
but not in porto, my hometown.
so last october, me and tó decided we'd visit one of the iconic monuments of the city - the clérigos tower.
there were hundreds of steep stair to climb. they were narrow and when we'd cross someone coming down we'd have to perform something that looked like a circus number.
as we finally reached the top, strong wind brushed our hair, and chilled our cheeks.
the day was foggy, just like today.
and the view was something worthy.
it just reminded us the importance of acknowledging what's there, right in our face, to be seen and experienced.

  1. you just reminded me of something i thought of the other day, how we can easily find beauty in every city but the one we live in. we are so, so strange.

i really like what you wrote, it made me think. i guess we are all tourists in our own hometowns.

also, those pictures are very beautiful. they smell like winter for some reason.

  2. Ah yes indeed. I like playing tourist in the city I live in every now and then, visit churches and do the things tourists do. And sometimes friends and I take our bikes and then we just cycle, take turns on deciding whether to go left or right without knowing where you'll end up. It's nice to suddenly find undiscovered beauty in the town you live in.

Also, there is this group of people who thought of ways to walk a city, one of them is for example when you're in london, take the map of paris and try to go to the eiffel tower and then see where you'll end up.
